ISPA Press Release - Internet Solutions Chosen For JINX Hosting - 12 June 2006

The Internet Service Providers Association of SA (ISPA) has accepted Internet Solutions proposal to host the Johannesburg Internet Exchange (JINX).

JINX enables ISPA members to interconnect networks and exchange traffic in order to save costs. In 1996, JINXs four links boasted speeds varying from 64 kilobytes a second to 256 kilobytes a second. Ten years later, link speeds vary from two to over 100 megabits per second.

ISPA received submissions from Internet Solutions and Telkom in response to its call earlier this year for JINX hosting proposals for the 2006 to 2009 period.

ISPA chose current host Internet Solutions because the cost for members to connect to Internet Solutions' hosting facilities in Rosebank is much lower than the cost to connect to Telkom's facility in Centurion. In addition, while Internet Solutions proposed to host JINX at no charge to ISPA, Telkom proposed a significant monthly hosting fee, said Greg Massel, Co-chair of ISPA.

The Internet Service Providers' Association is a South African Internet industry body incorporated not for gain. ISPAs members are comprised of 113 large, medium and small Internet service and access providers in South Africa. ISPA has historically served as an active industry body, facilitating exchange between the different independent Internet service providers, the Department of Communications, ICASA, operators and other service providers in South Africa.

Notes to Editors:

ISPA and UniForum SAs flagship annual gathering, iWeek, takes place from 4 7 September 2006 at The Castle in Kyalami. iWeek has emerged from a purely South African event to a truly international conference attracting the best and brightest from the worlds Internet community.
